Court One at the FCC Tennis Complex was the scene of a small upset on Sunday afternoon in the final preliminary match of the men's doubles tournament . The team of JJ Preston and Matt Hull upset 2015 champions Scott Atkins and Kevin MacDonald.
When the dust cleared more than two hours later, the scoreline read 6-3, 6-7, 6-0. Due to the close match scores throughout the round robin event, Preston and Hull needed to win 5 more games in the match than their Sunday opponent in order to clinch a spot in the championship round. They did more than that as they won not only the match, but also the battle of games won by an 18 to 10 margin. It was a battle of close scores all day.
