First Time’s a Charm

In a match that provided numerous shifts in momentum, Bryan Little and Ries Hohman fought off a ferocious effort from Chuck Stumpp and Kendra Spears to win their first FCC Mixed Doubles title.

After trailing 0-4 and 1-5 in the opening set, the eventual champions scratched and clawed their way back to 5-all before holding to take a 6-5 lead in the set.  Finally, after nearly one hour, they were able to break serve again and grab the opening set 7-5.

As the second set began, Stumpp and Spears came out strong, looking more focused. After breaking serve to go up 3-1 they never looked back, taking the set 6-2.

With each team splitting the first two sets, the title would be decided by a Match Tie-Break -  the first  team to win 10 points. After an even start that found each team tied at 2, Little and Hohman shifted gears, looking more determined than ever, pulling ahead and winning the tie-break 10-4 to take home the title.

Each team showed great sportsmanship throughout the tense match.  Thank you to all the participants and spectators who attended this year’s 8.0 Championship.
