Closing Duties and Annual Awards

Thank you for making this summer a huge success at the tennis courts! Despite the Pandemic, most of the time things at the courts seemed quite ‘normal’, and in a year like this, I’ll take ‘normal’ every day!!

Here’s the list of our annual, and sometimes humorous, FCC Tennis Awards:

  • MOST POPULAR EVENT – Club Championships. The crowds were incredible !!
  • BEST ATTENDED WEEKLY EVENT – Ladies Day (Mondays)
  • PLAYER OF THE YEAR – Mary Pat Longo (She LIVED at the courts!)
  • MOST VALUABLE USTA PLAYER – Deb Preston (She just keeps winning….)
  • MOST IMPROVED MALE – Rod Walton (got himself in good shape this summer!)
  • MOST IMPROVED FEMALES – Jane Bohnlein (new nickname: ‘the blitzing Backhander’); Ries Hohman (may actually be a bit too obsessed about the game.)
  • JANE BOHLEIN AWARD (Best Dressed) – Leta Brunner (oh those cute cardigans !)
  • JR PLAYER – James Hedrick (one word about this boy:  passion.)
  • FAMILY OF THE YEAR – Palmer’s  (Mom and Dad for transporting, Quin and Grace for loving the game so much!)
  • NEW FACE AT THE COURTS – Blair Lane (a bit raw, but we need more men like Blair at the courts!)

Thanks all for a great summer…..see you all in 2021.

Bob, Carissa, BC, Mac, William

Last Chance for Clay Court Tennis !

Unless you happen to be heading south this fall, your chance for playing outdoor tennis on clay is going away at the end of this week.

All good things must come to an end, but I will re-Open the courts next spring in what we all hope will be a Covid-free world.

Courts close Sunday, October 25th.

Closing Act

Sadly, we've come to the end of October and our weather is quickly deteriorating.  I'm proud to say that we are the last club with clay courts in Northwest Ohio to keep our nets up this fall, but the cooler weather is now winning the battle with our clay courts so I will begin closing them down as time permits.

I hope you all understand how much our tennis facility means to me. We've come a long way from the days of no windscreens, weeds growing on the fences, courts without proper irrigation, plastic patio furniture, no water coolers, the list goes on.  When I arrived at FCC in 1999, there was only one weekly activity being offered to the membership - Thursday 9am Ladies Day. Remember?  Probably not, because not many attended!   I'm proud to say we no offer over a dozen programmed hours of activities for our members to attend each week and every event always has someone in attendance.  Member use has increased 300% since '99 and numerous area citizens have joined FCC just for the tennis!  I have already begun a list of improvements for 2017 and I promise to each of you that as long as I am your Director of Tennis I will continue to do all I can to create a high quality, fun experience at FCC.

Thank you for all your support during the 2016 tennis season.  I gladly welcome your comments, questions, ideas during the off-season.  You can forward them to me at bobstennis@gmail.com or to Joe Klein at jklein@findlaycc.com

Until next summer.........

Courts Closing Soon

If you're thinking of getting over to the FCC Tennis Courts for a game, you might want to go soon.  This week I will begin 'winterizing' the tennis facility.  While the courts will remain OPEN as long as the weather permits, the patio furniture and other seasonal equipment will be removed from the facility.

It's a good idea to bring your own drinking water.  The coolers are no longer filled daily with ice water.

I am currently in Toledo working at The Twos Club every day, so I cannot care for the FCC Facility on a daily basis.  I ask that you groom your court after play so other FCC Members can enjoy our courts.  Brushes and line cleaner can be found hanging on the fences.
